Frequently asked questions about Dash. Can't find what you need? Send us an email.

How do I add a server?

Tap the + button on the server list screen. Enter your host, port (default 22), and username. You can authenticate with a password or an SSH key.

How do I import an SSH key?

Go to Settings → Private Keys → Import Key. You can paste a PEM-formatted key or import a file from your device.

What is the master password?

The master password encrypts all your data (servers, keys, settings) on-device using AES-256. It is never stored or transmitted — if you forget it, the data cannot be recovered.

How do I set up port forwarding?

Open a server connection, then tap the Port Forwarding icon in the toolbar. You can add local, remote, or dynamic (SOCKS5) tunnels.

How does iCloud sync work?

When enabled in Settings → Sync, your encrypted database is synced via iCloud to other devices signed in to the same Apple ID. The data is encrypted before leaving your device.

Can I transfer files to/from a server?

Yes. Once connected, tap the folder icon in the session toolbar to open the SFTP file browser. You can upload, download, and manage files graphically.

The terminal colors look wrong.

Make sure your server's TERM environment variable is set to xterm-256color. You can also adjust the terminal theme in Settings → Appearance.

Does Dash support jump hosts / bastion servers?

Yes. When adding or editing a server, tap "Proxy / Jump Host" and select an existing server in your list to use as the jump host.
